Methods
These are the things that we have found to be true across multiple domains, programmes, and environments. You don't always apply them in the same way — right-size isn't the same size everywhere — but if applied thoughtfully, then they will help you to be seriously effective.
Flow, not force
Work with the system to keep things moving.
Think big, move small
Understand the context; take manageable steps.
Right-size the rigour
Match your process to the risk and the stakes.
Dig until done
Pursue details when they're needed and not before.
Mind the humans
People complicate everything. Be caring (but also wary).
Nothing is sacred
Sometimes it’s the system itself that needs to change.
Not sure where to start?
Feeling overwhelmed? Remember to dig until done, and think big, but move small. Not sure how to add value? Read flow, not force. Drowning in process? Maybe try right-sizing the rigour. At least try that before you remind yourself that nothing is sacred.
And always — always — mind the humans!
